With Superset, VTG is introducing a new business intelligence tool that facilitates data-driven decision-making. Find out from Elen Roge and Jonas Scholz why the change was necessary, how the introduction is going and what advantages the tool offers!
Read moreData provides the basis for informed decision-making. However, the sheer volume of information presents companies with challenges: how can trends be identified, risks minimized and opportunities seized at an early stage? This is precisely where Business Intelligence (BI) comes in.
The new open-source tool Superset is currently being introduced to integrate and professionalize BI in VTG’s day-to-day work. “Superset enables us to automate data collection and thus make faster and more informed decisions,” explains Jonas Scholz, Head of Data & Analytics. The BI approach used so far via Web Focus reached its limits due to the heterogeneous VTG system landscape – and the license costs were high. “Working only with Excel would simply be wasting potential,” adds Elen Roge, who is also involved in the rollout as an in-house consultant in the Data & Analytics team.
The switch to Superset is being done in stages. “We’re starting with a test phase and then gradually moving into productive use,” explains Jonas. For the time being, Web Focus and Superset are running in parallel to ensure a smooth transition. “Web Focus has grown over the years, and many reports are established. That’s why we’re working with users to analyze which of them will continue to be needed,” says Elen.
Particular attention is paid to communication with employees. “No one is left alone. We actively engage with everyone and support them throughout the process,” Elen assures us. Their experiences from the S/4HANA implementation show how important cross-functional collaboration is. An agile approach makes it possible to tailor the migration to meet specific needs: “So we are working in line with our ‘transforming while performing’ principle,” Jonas summarizes.
… Superset was originally developed by the online booking platform Airbnb?
More than 200 employees have already registered for Superset. “Of course, there are different requirements and levels of knowledge, but that’s why it’s important to actively approach people,” emphasizes Elen. The initial feedback has been positive: many people find the new tool makes their daily work much easier.
Superset offers numerous advantages:
Jonas adds: “Automation reduces manual work and allows us to further develop our key figure system.” In the long term, Superset offers better utilization of data potential: “Fewer media disruptions, more automation and improved traceability of reports,” says Elen, describing the advantages. A decisive factor is the trust in the database: “Everyone works with the same raw data, which is always up to date – this creates transparency.”
The Data Analytics team
is the central center of expertise for data analytics at VTG. The team’s goal is to support employees in their day-to-day work with data analysis.
The introduction of Superset is more than just a software update – it is a step towards a professional, data-driven corporate culture. “It’s about using existing data efficiently and transparently,” explains Elen. Training employees remains a central component of this.
Jonas emphasizes: “Superset is only as good as the people who use it. That’s why we place such a high value on information and training.”
Change is in full swing – and Superset will play a major role in it.
