From October 7 to 9, things will be going digital… and exciting: As part of the VTG @ Hamburg-Cyber-Security-Days, you can look forward to a themed week that will teach you about digital security in a way that is easy to understand and relevant to everyday life.

The campaign was initiated by Paul Weinrich, who is not only responsible for information security at VTG, but also coordinates risk management (insights can be found here). The program includes a colorful mix of specialist presentations on all kinds of cyber security topics – and not just for the professional context.

“Cyber security affects us all – both at work and in our private lives,” says Paul. Through networking events, he got talking to colleagues from other Hamburg-based companies and learned that OTTO and bonprix had jointly initiated a week of action on the topic of digital security last year. “They wanted to continue the campaign,” he explains. “So we thought: Why not do it together?” The idea was to join forces, leverage synergies, and put together an attractive program. In addition to VTG, OTTO, and bonprix, Jungheinrich, Techniker Krankenkasse, Beiersdorf, Körber, and others are also participating.

Learning from hackers

The content of the presentations is deliberately broad: How does a hacker operate? What does internet security mean for families? How can I recognize phishing emails—and how can I create them myself to learn more? “We wanted to create formats that also provide support in a private setting,” says Paul. That’s why it’s possible to participate in the presentations using a private email address.

The program can be found on the VIBES event portal, where you can also register. What’s particularly exciting is that service providers such as our phishing partner Hoxhunt are also on board and sharing their expertise.

Get involved, spread the word, raise awareness

For Paul, the campaign will be a success “if I notice that colleagues are talking about it on their own initiative – and perhaps even implementing something privately.” The aim is to raise awareness and gain multipliers. The vision: the “Hamburg Cyber Security Days” should become a brand and take place annually. So: Take a look, register, join the discussion—and together we can set an example for greater digital security!
