Providing opportunities. Shaping the future.
On September 1, it was that time again: nine new apprentices began an exciting new chapter in their lives at VTG RailTrain. They are starting their training as construction mechanics or metal technology specialists – and are thus part of a program that offers more than just traditional vocational training. The VTG RailTrain program is specifically aimed at young people who have difficulty finding a training place due to social, educational, or cultural barriers. For the eighth time, VTG is giving them the chance to receive fully qualified training – and a secure professional future.
Arriving and growing together
After the initial briefings and instructions, the focus was on getting to know each other: social worker Carsten Schreiber and training supervisor Stefan Wollherr accompanied the onboarding process and ensured a successful start with various team-building activities. On the third day, it was time to get to work – the trainees were able to demonstrate their manual skills in the basic metalworking course.

More than just technical knowledge
What makes training at VTG RailTrain special is that, in addition to the content of the training program, personal and social skills are also promoted, academic deficits are made up for, and individual strengths are reinforced. Throughout the entire training program, participants receive experienced social-educational support—an important building block for a successful start to their professional lives.
The class of 2025 at work
Andre Grote, training manager at VTG, sums it up:
“It’s always impressive to meet the young people with their diverse backgrounds at the start of their training – and then to see them develop into skilled workers and mature personalities.”
Welcome to our nine apprentices at VTG RailTrain – we look forward to a successful and exciting training period!
