This project began with the request of the customer in January 2024. Breedon Cement, a leading international construction materials group operating in the UK, Ireland, and the US, ordered 62 brand-new JPA wagons—an increase from the original 54 units. These wagons are designed for the transport of powdered cement, supporting Breedon’s extensive operations in the building materials sector.
The first wagons will leave the workshop at the end of 2025 and are scheduled to arrive in the UK in early 2026, ready to enter service on the customer core routes.
A key feature of these wagons is VTG’s iWagon technology. In addition to protecting the wagons from wheel slide events, it provides real-time data on wagon performance and safety, helping to optimize logistics, reduce downtime, and lower environmental impact.

The first wagons
are to arrive in the UK in early 2026.
This visit was a great example of cross-functional teamwork: VTG’s Newbuild Team, VTG Rail UK, and Breedon Cement worked closely together from concept to production to make this project a success.
With these new wagons and iWagon technology, Breedon Cement is future proofing its supply chain and reinforcing its commitment to efficiency and sustainability. A great success story for the whole VTG business.
