Raising awareness and drawing attention to risks - that's what EMS wants to achieve with the help of comics on occupational safety and near misses at our workshops.
Read moreAccidents at work happen quickly and can be very dangerous. To prevent these accidents, as well as near misses (see box), comic strips will be hanging in VTG workshops in Europe from this fall. These were developed by the safety specialists of the workshops and EMS in cooperation with ECI and illustrated by a graphic designer
The comics show how quickly inattention and carelessness as well as unsafe conditions can lead to dangerous situations and injuries.
“We want to create awareness and encourage all employees to ensure greater safety themselves and to report unsafe conditions or actions – without pointing fingers. This requires an open error culture in all areas; from top management to the workshops. A comic conveys the message without words and is understood by everyone. We hope that one or two people will recognize themselves here with a smile and think about their actions in the future – ideally also those of their colleagues – in line with our motto: Safety takes us home,” explain Reiner Boll and Bastian Reisberg from EMS.
At VTG, we define a near miss as an incident that did not result in injury or damage. This also includes an unsafe act or unsafe condition that could lead to an incident. We therefore document near misses in the workshops and raise awareness of the issue.
